Answer -
- On installation, the rivet is placed in a punched or drilled hole, and the tail is upset, or bucked (i.e., deformed), so that it expands to about 1.5 times the original shaft diameter, holding the rivet in place. Because there is effectively a head on each end of an installed rivet, it can support tension loads.

Answer:
The rivets are fitted onto metal by using a hammer to make another head on the other side of the rivet as well.
Explanation:
First of all two metal surfaces are overlapped and a hole is drilled between them. The rivet is heated causing it to expand and then inserted in the hole. Then the other end or the rivet is hammered till it transforms into a head. When the rivet cools down it contracts bringing the two pieces of metal close which is now water tight.
