Rearing of silkworms: A female silk moth lays hundreds of eggs at a time. The eggs are stored by the farmers at suitable temperature and humidity under hygienic conditions. When the eggs hatch, silkworms come out of the eggs. The silkworms are fed mulberry leaves. After 25-30 days, the silkworms stop eating and get ready to spin cocoons. The silkworms enclose themselves completely inside the silken cocoons in two or three days.

An adult female silkmoth lays eggs on a mulberry leaf. These eggs are then carefully collected by the rearers and when these eggs hatch they are intensively fed on mulberry leavesand when these silkworms or larve or caterpillers mature they start spinning a cocoon around their body. Then as they rearers rear them for the silkfibres they then collect these cocoons and then boil them in water so that the silk fibres can be obtained.
