Small holdings play important role in raising agricultural development and poverty reduction. Due to undulating slope, low soil fertility, harsh climate and use of traditional implements and farm practices the agricultural yield from the Kandi areas is low which enhances the poverty.

Small land holding in Economics refers to considerably small farming or cultivation area which are mainly owned by small farming families. It basically denotes small plots of agricultural land for commercial production as well as subsistence farming.

Explanation:

Small landholding is an important feature of agricultural sector in developing countries.Small landholders increasingly constitute a major part of the agricultural or rural population in these countries. However, most of the farmers having small landholding are evidently poor and impoverished compared to their counterparts owning bigger farms. Many of the small landholder do not have access to proper resources and inputs for production purposes such as adequate energy resources, irrigation facilities or access to better quality pesticides or chemical fertilizers that can increase productivity. The small landholding farmers are also deprived of advanced technological inputs in agriculture, better credit facilities from banks and financial institutions and essential market information such as commodity prices and consumer demand. These farmers also do not have proper access to capital as well as final consumer markets as much as their other big landholder counterparts.Hence, most of the small farming lands are mainly used for subsistence farming in most of the developing countries and the farmers are not able to enjoy the fruits of commercial farming as much.
