how are speed and velocity different from each other

speed-

speed=distance/time

scalar quantity

shows magnitude


velocity-

velocity=displacement/time

vector quantity

shows magnitude as well as direction

1.Speed is a scalar quantity whereas velocity is a vector quantity.
2.Speed is the distance covered per unit time whereas velocity is the distance covered per unit time in a specific direction.
3.Speed can be zero or positive whereas velocity can be zero , positive or negative.
4.Speed is always greater than velocity or equal to it whereas velocity is always lesser than speed or equal to it.
(Speed and Velocity are equal when the object moves in a straight line).
