How are standard electrode potentials measured?
Answers
It is not possible to make a direct measurement of the potential of an independent electrode, but the potential of the middle of the electrodes can be measured accurately.
This is called the indirect method of measurement of electrode potential. In this method the metal electrode whose probability is to be known is combined with the known potential electrode.
The electrode with this known potential is called the reference electrode (standard hydrogen electrodes) by adding metal electrodes and reference electrodes to form a cell, and the probability of the resultant cell is known by experiments,
the probability of the reference electrode is already known to us.
Therefore, the metallic electrode potential is calculated with the help of these two critical values
