A basic salt is formed when a weak acid reacts with a strong base to neutralise the reaction. This reaction results in formation of water and a salt which is basic in nature.

E.g. H₂CO₃+NaOH→NaHCO₃+H₂O

In this reaction, carbonic acid (weak acid) reacts with Sodium Hydroxide (strong base) to form a salt, Sodium hydrogen carbonate, which is a basic salt.
