Blackened silver utensils and paginated brass utensils cleaned by "using baking soda." When cleaning old silver utensils you could use baking soda to break down the rust and the dirt that in the utensil. You would have to wet the baking soda then mix it to make it thick then use something small like a toothbrush to scrub all of the rust, and dirt out of the utensil then let it sit then wash the dish again in order it to be clean.
