The basic idea behind the formation of SHG is to create self employment for poor people, particularly for rural poor women.The SHG help the poor borrowers to overcome the problem of lack of collaterals.

They can get timely loans for a variety of purposes at a reasonable interest rate in the name of the SHG of which they are members. Thus, the SHG are the building blocks for the rural poor.
