Plates can only move if they are pushed apart. thus whenever two plates are pushed away from each other molten magma comes out of the surface of the Earth. this way new crust is formed

• Continental plates are formed due to the activities like sea floor spreading in which the lava raising up from the mantle are hardened into rock creating new rocks.
