The Himalaya consist of 3 parallel ranges in its longitudinal extent. The northernmost range is known as the Great or Inner Himalayas or HIMADRI with an average height of 6,000m. It contains all the prominent Himalayan peaks.
The range lying in the south of the Himadri forms the rugged mountain St system and is known as HIMACHAL or lesser Himalayas. The altitude varies between 3,700 to 4,500 m and the average width is 50km.
The outermost range of the Himalayas is called SHIVALIKS. They extent over a width of 10-50km and have a altitude varying between 900-1100m. These valleys are covered with thick gravel and alluvium.
The longitudinal valley lying between lesser Himalayas and SHIVALIKS are known as Duns.
CONCLUSION :- Himalayas are divided into 3 main parts - Himadri, Himachal and Shivaliks.
