To draft a Constitution, a Constituent Assembly was formed in which Dr. Rajendra Prasad was appointed as its President and this Constituent Assembly started working on December 9, 1946 and Dr. BR Ambedkar was appointed as the chairman of the drafting committee and this constituent assembly met for 165 days spread over a period of 2 years 11 months and 17 days. The Constitution was ,finally, passed by the Assembly on November 26, 1949 and came into effect on January 26, 1950.
