How are the lungs designed in human beings to maximise the area for

the trachea divides into bronchi which enters the lungs. In the lungs, the bronchi divides into smaller tubes called bronchioles which finally terminate in balloon like structure called alveolar. The alveolar provide a large surface are where the exchange of gases can take place. The walls of alveoli contain an extensive network of blood vessels for easy exchange of gases.
