In the lungs the bronchioles terminate in balloon like structure called alveoli.the alveoli contains network of blood cappilaries that increase the surface area for exchange of gases. Lungs are divided into smaller components called alveolar sacs where the major process of gas exchange takes place.

lungs are protected inside the ribs

to let the lungs contract during inhaling and exhaling the last pair or ribs are to not attached to the spiral code

these ribs are also known as floating ribs......
