Following were the main features of the Permanent Settlement: (a)The rajas and taluqdars were recognised as zamindars. (b)They were responsible for collecting revenue from peasants and paying to the Company. (c)Revenue demand was permanently fixed.

1) Under the permanent settlement the rate of revenue was fixed permanently that it was not to be increased in future.

But in mahalwari system it was decided that the rate of revenue would be revised the periodically not permanently fixed.

2) Under permanent settlement the zamindars were given the charge of collecting the revenue from the peasants and paying it to the company.

But in mahalwari system this charge was given to the village headman.
