MLCs are chosen in a following manner.One third are elected by member of local bodies such as municipalities,gram sabha,panchayat etc.One twelfth are elected by the persons who are graduates by three years standing residing by the state.

Who are MLAs?
- The members of the Legislative Council (Vidhan Parishad) are called MLCs.
Unlike the MLAs, MLCs are not elected directly by the people of the state.They are elected by the following methods :-
- 1/3 of them are elected by the MLAs of the state.
- 1/3 of them are elected by local government bodies such as Municipalities.
- 1/12 of them are elected by the teachers of universities, secondary schools and colleges.
- 1/12 of them are elected by university graduates.
- The remaining 1/6 of them are elected by the governor from Artists, Scholars, poets etc.
