Both Democrats and Republicans choose delegates to represent their parties. These delegates in turn vote for their nominees for presidency usually at their party conventions. What makes a difference is the fact that democrats allocate delegates according to the state primary's vote percentage. This method is referred to as proportionality. On the other hand, Republicans lean generally to winner take it all out comes. In other words, who ever gets most votes, automatically becomes the winner.
