Reservation is a system in India that provides scholarship, concession in fees, 49.5 % seats in educational institutions, jobs, and relaxation in qualifying exams, relaxation in age to certain castes. This system continues almost 70 years of independence. The motive of reservation was representation in education, employment and politics. Based on provisions in the Indian Constitution, it allows the Union Government and also the States and Territories of India to set reserved quotas or seats, which lower the qualifications needed in exams, job openings etc. for "socially and educationally backward citizens."
