In the story there is a little girl called Maggie who was in an isolated condition after her mother’s death. No body from the village was willing to take care of Maggie because she had been sick for 2 years. Nobody cared for her except Joe Thompson. He he took her home.
Initially Mrs Thompson didn’t like her but then she gradually developed a soft corner for her. Hence the Jonson’s showed virtues of kindness ,gratitude caring,chance and happiness
