How are variations accumulated over successive generations

some errors occur in DNA copying due to which some. new proteins are formed . thus variation occurs. this happens in every generations. over generations these variations are passed on to the young ones and especially in sexually reproducing organisms the variations from two parents are accumulated and passed on to the next generation.
