Water and minerals are transported in plants by two complex permanent tissues found only in plants. Water is transported by tissue Xylem but it can transport only upwards.
Minerals and food particles are transported by tissue Phloem and it can transport minerals and food particles from leaves to all parts of the plant and it can transport both upwards and downwards.

In plants , the water and minerals are first absorbed by the roots and then it is absorbed by the two vascular tissues namely xylem & Phloem . ... After absorbing water and minerals , by this tissues then it is transported to all parts of plants such as stem , leaves etc .
