Water is required by the plants to perform photosynthesis and many other processes. Minerals are required by them to produce proteins. Both of these things are received from the soil. The root hair present on the epidermal cells of the roots absorb the water present between the soil particles. This water also contains minerals required. This water reaches the xylem tissues present throughout the whole plant body. This flow of water is unidirectional, i.e., it goes only from downwards to upwards. This water then reaches all the parts of the plant.
