water animals live in water they take breath in water only whereas birds live without air

Water animals are adapted to living in liquid so they need to be able to move easily in a liquid fluid environment and to get oxygen from water (think gills). Birds need to be adapted to the ability to move easily through air (a much lighter environment than water) and to have the ability to get oxygen from air (think lungs).
