How are waterfalls formed

Answer:

They are formed in two ways: When the slope of a river bed drops down all of a sudden, the water plunges down from the mountain in the form of a magnificent waterfall. Faulting may also result into a break in the land surface and hence, the slope of the river bed drops and results into waterfall.

A river sometimes flows over a large step in the rocks that may have been formed by a fault line. Waterfalls can occur along the edge of a glacial trough, where a stream or river flowing into a glacier continues to flow into a valley after the glacier has receded or melted.
