Answer:

Erosion is just one process that can form waterfalls. A waterfall may form across a fault, or crack in the Earth's surface. An earthquake, landslide, glacier, or volcano may also disrupt stream beds and help create waterfalls.

Answer:

Hey dear. Here you go with the answer. Am attaching a diagram for your ready reference.

Explanation:

Waterfall formation needs the pre requisite of two kinds of rocks that must be adjacent. They are soft rocks and hard rocks. Soft rocks can be easily cut through by water or wind. However the weathering of hard rocks takes a long time .

Look at the figure.

  • A river flows over hard rock and soft rock.
  • Having the property of quick erosion, soft rock erodes quickly in comparison to hard rock.
  • With time, the soft rock goes down and down resulting in two levels of ground. (Don't forget...the river is still flowing)
  • As the river goes on cutting, soft rock lowers down and a waterfall formes.

With time, the hard rock also gets eroded with the action of water causing the river to recede back and flow upstream.

Note: Weathering and erosion are some ways in which waterfall can be formed. Say for example, an earthquake occurs or the ground splits into two for tectonic movement, etc. That too can lead to waterfall formation.

Hope it helps!
