Shanshui literally means mountain water. Used together, mountain and water represent the word landscape. Instead of representing two elements of an image they represent two complementary poles. The mountain is the YANG which reaches the heaven vertically ,stable,warm and dry in the sun. The water on the other hand is YIN horizontally and resting on the earth , fluid,moist , and cool.

The concept of Shanshui is close to the Daoist
