How atoms and molecules are affected by heat?

:when heat is added to a substance ,the molecular and atoms vibrate faster ....solids, liquids and gases all expand when heat is added. when heat leaves all substance ,the molecule vibrate slower ,the atoms can get closer which result in the matter contradiction
