PHOTOTROPISM IN PLANTS: The shoot responds to light by bending towards from it.

This happens as follows:

When sunlight falls on only on side of the plant, the plant hormone AUXIN diffuses towards the shaded side of the shoot and gets concentrated, causing the cells there to grow longer than the cells on the other side facing sunlight.

Thus, the shaded side grows more than the side facing sunlight.
