As the tree becomes older the tissues become dry and are hardened due to the transpiration... They are no longer use in transport of minerals... Therefore they act as a protective tissue........

As the plants grows the epidermis converts into cork cambium which give rise to cells on the outer side is called cork and its forms bark of the tree
(1)its prevents water loses.
(2)it prevents against infections
(3)it gives ProtectioN
(4)ITS IS IMPERVIOUS TO GASES.
