Beryllium is different from other alkaline earth metals in many characteristics.

This is due to small size of Beryllium atom and Be+2 ion, it's high ionization enthalpy and high electronegativity and the absence of d-orbitals.

Also it has higher melting and boiling points compared to other elements in group.

The oxides of beryllium, are amphoteric whereas other oxides of alkaline earth metals are strong bases.
