Evaporation can be defined as a type of vaporization of a liquid that occurs from the surface of a liquid into a gaseous phase that is not saturated with the evaporating substance.

The factors that affect evaporation are :

1. Wind - eg. clothes dry faster under a fan.

2. Heat -eg. in summer clothes dry faster than in winter.

3. Increase in surface area - eg. a wet cloth spread out dries faster than when it is folded.

4. Dryness - clothes dry faster in summer season than during the monsoon when the air is humid.

5. Rate of evaporation also depends upon the nature of the liquid. eg. petrol evaporates faster than water.

6. Vapor pressure- if pressure is applied on the surface of a liquid, evaporation is hindered.eg. the case of a pressure cooker.
