Qutub-ud-Din Aibak
Qutub-ud-Din Aibak of Slave Dynasty laid the foundation of Minar in A.D. 1199 for the use of mu'azzin (crier) to give calls for prayer and raised the first storey, to which were added three more storeys by his successor and son-in-law, Shams-ud-Din Itutmish (A.D. 1211-36).

Around 1192, Qutub-ud-Din Aibak started the construction of Qutub Minar, but he could only construct the basement. Later the construction was taken over by his successor Iltutmish who constructed three more stories of the tower. Firoz Shah Tuglak constructed the last two stories.
