Conversion :-

• But-1-ene to But-2-ene

When But-1-ene reacts with HBr in the presence of peroxide then, it forms 2-bromo butane. (Anti-Markovnikov's Rule or Kharasch's effect)

Chemical equation :-

CH3-CH2-CH=CH2 + HBr → CH3-CH2-CH(Br)-CH3

Further reaction :-

Then, 2-bromo butane reacts with alcoholic KOH to form but-2-ene (Elimatiaon reaction)

Chemical equation :-

CH3-CH2-CH(Br)-CH3 + KOH (alc.) → CH3-CH=CH-CH3 + KBr + H2O
