Chalk powder is mixed with coconut oil. Let the chalk powder settle at the bottom of the container for half an hour. Chalk powder remains undissolved settles at the bottom, this process is sedimentation. Now remove the clear oil from the top layer to separate the oil from the powder, this process is decantation...

Some of the common methods of separating substances or mixtures are:

Handpicking.

Threshing.

Winnowing.

Sieving.

Evaporation.

Distillation.

Filtration or Sedimentation.

Separating Funnel.

Explanation:

A mixture of chalk powder and water can be separated by this method. To separate the soluble solids form liquids we use evaporation and condensation methods. The process of conversion of water into vapour by heating it to its boiling point is called evaporation.
