how can 'better management of water resource' help in conservation of water?

Management of water resources will surely help in conservation of water such as if we maintain our rivers clean and plants trees at the bank of river and don't throw garbage of any in the river then the water will remain longer usually .. River like gangas are changing there path or moving away from the cities just because of dis management .
