Answer:

Casteism is discrimination on grounds of caste. In ancient times, caste were divided on the basis of occupation. But then came the self proclaimed god-men who misinterpreted Vedas and Upanishad. They preached one cannot change their occupation and created hierarchy based on occupations (today known as caste). Eliminating casteism is not easy as its 2000 years old tradition, but we can mitigate debilitating effects on our society. To eradicate this we should take following step:

Promote inter-caste marriage . To avoid rejection of marriage proposal by upper caste , earlier people used to marry with in their caste. Another reason was that within same caste, people used to have similar perspective and thereby avoid unnecessary squabble. Gradually this led to isolation of different caste. So promoting inter-caste marriage will eliminate this superiority complex phenomenon and change the perspective of one’s regarding different caste.

Caste to class concept : Caste as concept is inherent due to failure of industrial revolution in India. Unlike the enlightenment and renaissance in west which changed the feudal society to capitalist society, India’s journey have been slow on this front. Thus the shining industrial revolution would would dilute the caste and class would be driving idea. Offcourse, then we do depart from our socialistic ideals. But decide yourself which is menace to society. Caste is both economic and social concept while class is only economic, so atleast one dimension getting eliminated would be sufficient. Already we can observe caste is diluting in urban affairs.

Redistribution of land : Almost 70% of SC/ST have less than 2.5 acre of land holding compared to 28.9% of general. Also previous land distribution programme largely failed,
