There are two tests by which ethanol and ethanoic acid can be differentiated :-

NaHCO3 test :-

When ethanol put in sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) will remain same and in case of ethanoic acid new product (salt, Water,CO2) ARE formed.

Blue litmus test:-

put one drop of Ethanol on blue litmus paper , there will be no change in litmus .

when ethanoic acid put on blue litmus it will turn to red.

So ,these are two Methods which are important for Class 10 Boards exams .
