when we heat a metal or nonmetal in atmosphere or open air it combines with oxygen which is present in the atmosphere to form its oxide so when copper is heated in air or in presence of oxygen copper gets attached with Oxygen and as we know that if an compound combines with oxygen it is an Oxidation reaction so in this case heating of copper in air is also an Oxidation reaction
