Solution:

Relative atomic mass:

The relative atomic mass or atomic weight of an element is the number of times one atom of an element is heavier than 1/12 times of the mass of an atom of carbon-12.

Calculation:

➛ Relative atomic mass = Mass of 1 atom of the element/(1/12)th the mass of one C-12 atom

Average atomic mass:

The sum of atomic mass of an isotope of a particular element multiplied by percentage abundance in its decimal form is called average atomic mass.

Calculation:

Average atomic mass = M₁P₁ + M₂P₂ + M₃P₃ ...

( will continue till the number of isotopes the particular element has...)

Where,

  • M₁ ➝ Mass of 1st isotope
  • P₁ ➝ Percentage abundance of first isotope
  • M₂ ➝ Mass of second isotope
  • P₂ ➝ Percentage abundance of second isotope
  • M₃ ➝ Mass of third isotope
  • P₃ ➝ Percentage abundance of third isotope
