Ethanal can be converted to acetoxime by first forming acetone from ethanal and further converting the acetone into acetoxime.

Ethanal + Methyl magnesium bromide → Isopropyl alcohol

Isopropyl alcohol + KMnO₄ → Acetone

Acetone + NH₂OH → Acetoxime + H₂O

Its a 3 Step Preparation

Explanation:

The following steps can be followed:

1.) Ethanal gets converted into 2-Propanol by acidification and making use of Methyl Magnesium Bromide (CH_3MgBr)

2.) Further by using PCC, Propanone is made by oxidizing 2 -Propanol

3.) Finally, Acetoxime is made, by treatment of Propanone and Hydroxylamine (NH_4OH)

Reactions are -

CH_3CHO + H_2O --> CH_3COCH_3 --> (CH_3)_2C=NOH

Acetaldehyde in the presence of water and sulphuric acid gives CH_3COCH_3which in the presence of Hydroxylamine (NH_4OH) yields Acetoxime.
