how can I deal with being falsely accused by my mother
Answers
Answer: I hope it helps...
Explanation: Does she have dementia?
Sometimes people with dementia start thinking these sorts of things.
Assuming she doesn’t and she’s lying and you’re innocent, stating that someone is stealing is a serious accusation. She had better have proof. Who does she say you are stealing from? Who is she telling these stories to?
Depending on who she’s saying it about, I guess you have the option to sue her for slander or defamation.
I realise you might not want to do that as it could upset your relationship with your husband.
However, this is already upsetting your relationship (as she clearly intends) so you have to do something.
The first, most obvious thing to me is that you have no contact with her, she is not allowed in your home and she is allowed no contact with your children (if you have any) or any future children you may have, unless she admits her lie, apologises and says it won’t happen again. I’d recommend getting not just a personal apology, but one in her own handwriting. For evidence in case she pulls something similar in the future.
