how can i divide R12000 for sam and john in the ratio of 4:5

Given ratio : - 4 : 5

( Rs of sam ) : ( Rs of john ) = 4 : 5

Let,

  Sam got Rs 4x from Rs 12000

  John got Rs 5x from Rs 12000

As sum of money which is divided between sam and john is Rs 4x and Rs 5x, and total money is Rs 12000.

Then,

Money of sam + Money of jhon = Total amount

⇒ Rs 5x + Rs 4x = Rs 12000

⇒ Rs 9x = Rs 12000

⇒ 9x = 12000

⇒ x = 12000 / 9

⇒ x = 4000 / 3

Therefore,

You should give Rs 4x i.e. Rs 4 x 4000 / 3 = Rs 16000 / 3 to sam

and Rs 5x i.e. Rs 5 x 4000 / 3 = Rs 20000 / 3 to john

If we divide 20000 / 3 or 16000 / 3 , we will not get any natural value. So you can give them the approximate values of Rs 20000 / 3 and Rs 16000 / 3 .
