To find the HCF of two numbers steps are:-
Suppose we have to find the HCF of 18 & 27.
FIRST STEP :- Factorise both number.
18 = 2×3×3
27 = 3×3×3
SECOND TERM:- Write all the terms which is common in both.
HCF(18 & 27) = 3×3
THIRD STEP:- Simplify.
HCF(18 & 27) = 9
So the HCF of 18 & 27 is 9.
Hope u understand.

→there are two ways to finding HCF of the given number.
★ Prime Factorisation Method
in this method , the factors of numbers should be prime.
for eg: factor of 12 → 2 x 3 x 2, and 8→ 2 x 2 x 2
→ so their HCF is 2 x 2 = 4
★ Euclid division algorithm
in this method u have to do long division method , at end if remainder comes zero, then the last divisor would be considered the HCF.
