How can I find the "OXIDATION STATES and NUMBER" of Transition metals like Zinc, Iron...etc?

Kindly give me a Detailed Answer (With Examples) of this according to CAIE O level Chemistry.

we need to know oxidation states of some common elements like Oxygen ,Cl etc..

In case of Fe2O3, we know the oxidation state of O is -2..

there is 3 O atom... so the total negative charge will be -2×3= -6

so there should be another +6 to balance the negative charge...

there is 2 Fe.. so divide the 6 positive charge among the two Fe atom equally...

We get +3...

same is the method for all elements..
