how can i find the position of element in periodic table?

consider the atomic number and split it into electronic configuration for example sodium atomic number yes 11 and the electronic configuration of it is 2, 8, 1 so that the last shell electrons(valence electrons) represent the group number and the number of shells that is 3 represents the period number so by calculating this both you can say the position.
