Answer:

1) Read your selected piece quietly to yourself several times. Notice the cadence of the writing. Where is there punctuation? How does the preceding sentence inform the meaning of the next? Get a feel for how you think the author would deliver the piece.

2) Read your selected piece aloud and (if you can) record your voice. Having a recording of the piece will help you memorize it and force you to reflect upon your presentation. (Don’t worry, nobody likes the sound of their own voice).

3) Work on your piece for 20 minutes each day.

Some Tips The Day Of:

1) If you forget a line or trip over a word. Pause, collect yourself and push forward. If you still can’t remember the line, just say “line” and I will give you the first few words to jumpstart you back into the piece.

2) The day of your declamation, I will ask for volunteers from the list of people scheduled to declaim. Volunteer.

3) Relax and support each other.

Final Thoughts:

1) Enjoy your February Break.
