Improving social landscape is dependant on the improvement of rural economy. Irrigation is a much needed resource these days. Given the current drought situation, one might say that irrigation alone can contribute to successful crop production and improve the rural economy and social landscape.

But there a lot of other factors that come into picture. Even if irrigation is available in India, there crop produce is not regulated. ( Correct me if i am wrong) There is no central body that monitors all the crop produces and accordingly manage the supply demand of different crops to meet the ends. Even if it is done, the current markets are full of hoarders and with no transparency in pricing, there is little or no benefit that can happen. Improving irrigation will definitely have a positive impact on the crop production, but it doesn't guarantee that the farmer and the rural economy will benefit from the same as long as the current market model exists, in which the prices are fixed by traders association etc ., but not the farmers.
