ANSWER
For this place a compass near the wire. As the current starts to flow through the wire, the needle gets deflected. This shows that a magnetic field exists.

If we bring a compass needle near wire and it shows deflection which shows that there is magnetic field due to current carrying wire ,the deflection is due to attraction or repulsion by magnetic field caused by the presence of a magnetic field.
