they cannot mix with the solution as they are not similar to the solution's nature

like...

if the solution is polar, the insoluble substance is non polar

or,

if the solution is non polar, the insoluble substance is polar

  1. knowing the polarity of the solution and substance
  2. the insoluble substances are mostly precipitate which means they gather at the bottom of the solution. so the substance which are found at the bottom are insoluble
  3. they are solid or semi solid
