Hydroboration-oxidation is a two step organic reaction that converts an alkene into a neutral alcohol. This is an anti-Markovnicov reaction which normally involves addition of hydrogen into the carbon atom of the double bond which has few hydrogen atom.
The first step involves the reaction between propene and borohydride in the presence of ethylether then followed by hydrogen peroxide in the presence of a base such as sodiu hydroxide to form propan-1-ol. This alcohol is normally referred to as a primary alcohol.
