Religion is the main cause for communalism .Religion in a democratic country brings about vote banks.its effect is dangerous when it is brought into politics as it brings about the method of majoritarianism as one group of people gains power over other group as been in the case of sri lank where the society is divided in sinhala speakers and tamil speakers
